WELL SUSTAINED

BRITISH AIR OFFENSIVE

FURTHER DAY & NIGHT OPERATIONS. HEAVY ATTACKS ON BREMEN & COLOGNE. LONDON. July 3. „ In two daylight sweeps over Northern France today, R.A.F. fighters shot down eleven German planes, five in the first sweep and six in the second. Six British planes are missing from the whole day’s operations. Bombers also took part in an attack on railway targets in Northern France. One failed to return.

Only one enemy aircraft flew over Britain today and it crashed on the coast.

Last night, the R.A.F. attacked Bremen. Cologne, the docks at Cherbourg and oil tanks at Rotterdam. The attacks on Bremen and Cologne were heavy. At Bremen the shipyards and industrial areas suffered heavily. At Cologne huge fires broke out on both sides of the river. Four British bombers were shot down and at least one enemy plane ..was destroyed (it was shot down in flames, over Holland, by one of our bombers) and others were damaged. A heavily-laden supply ship of 5,000 tons was attacked by Beaufort aircraft off the French coast. A torpedo was seen to hit the vessel.

Britain had a quiet night last night. Very few enemy aircraft flew inland and there are no reports of bombs being dropped.
