Although her new foreign policy at present ties Japan to neutrality in the Russian-German war, the United Press reports that diplomatic sources authoritatively assert that Japan has decided to proceed vigorously and speedily in the extension of her influence in IndoChina and Thailand, accomplishing this merely by a strong show of force, which is likely within a few days. The same sources believe, however, that Japan will not proceed at once with any strong policy towards the Netherlands Indies. FACING BOTH WAVS JAPAN’S PACTS WITH SOVIET & AXIS. TOKIO, July 2. The Imperial Conference adjourned and. the Government issued a statement that "a decision has been taken on important national policies to meet the- current situation.” The spokesman did not divulge the nature of the decision and warned the Press not to speculate. Though he did not reveal the decision of the Imperial conference.. the Foreign Minister, Mr Matsuoka, in a statements indicated that Japans course temporarily, as. a result of the invasion of Russia, would be one of watchful waiting.
The bi-monthly “Revue Diplomatique,” which is supported by the Foreign Office, said Japan intends to respect both the Tripartite and Russian treaties. It added that Japan must complete her Asiatic New Order before stepping in on any other world scene.
