ADMISSION BY BERLIN SPOKESMAN MANY RUSSIANS BEHIND SPEARHEAD. FIERCE BATTLE RAGING FOR HANKO. LONDON, July 1. While military reports received from Berlin claimed that the German tank columns' were driving along the road from Minsk to Moscow “at a pace which could not be stopped,” the Berlin spokesman admitted, “There are many Russians
behind our armoured spearhead, and the country over which the Panzer divisions are dashing cannot be regarded as occupied.”

Our troops in the Minsk and Bobruisk areas fought a night-long battle against superior enemy forces, successfully resisting their attempts to advance eastward. Infantry, artillery, tanks and air forces took part in the fighting. “We stemmed an advance by the enemy tank units in the Rowne sector (otherwise Rovno, 45 miles east of Luck) and we counter-attacked, inflicting heavy losses. “We continued to hold the State frontier in all other sectors of the front, repelling numerous enemy attacks.
“Our air force struck powerful blows on the enemy tank and rhotorised forces in the regions of Dvinsk, Slutsk and Luck. The results of the air force activity are being ascertained,'’
