An apprentice plumber was called in to fix a leaky joint in a home-made shower the officers had rigged up near the mess. It had’ to be done officially, and Ihe officer of the day reported to the adjutant: “Joint very neatly done.” Two days later the plumber was appointed chief cook to the officers’ mess.
