OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

LORRY. PARKING (To the Editor.) Sir, —Some six months ago protests were made against the nuisance' of lorry parking in Lincoln Road. In a council meeting it was admitted there was just cause for complaint. At that meeting it was requested that the residents exercise a little patience and all would be well. Half a year has elapsed (shades of Rip Van Winkle) and what is the result? A tew less sheep lorries, but this owing only to the season. In every other respect the nuisance has not only continued, but has gone from bad to worse. For instance, last week one of the offending company’s lorries, not content with the street, so occupied the footpath (loading firewood) that on two occasions women with prams were forced on to the roadway. Each day can see an unlimited number of lorries parked for a considerable time on both sides of the street, this while the company's yard is half empty. Each evening one can see a traffic hold-up whilst the lorries manoeuvre into the depot. I presume that the ratepayers are expected to pay rates. Will the sop “A little patience" be an effective reply on our part to the council’s rate demand? One is forced to the conclusion that either the council lacks authority, or is not prepared to exercise it. or is unconcerned about the rights of ratepayers and residents. If it is impossible for the council to do anything else, could it be empowered to change the name from Lincoln Road to' "Lorry Lane," or “Sheep-crate Close?’’ Thanking you, Mr Editor, for your valuable space, I am, etc., OBSERVER. Masterton, June 30.
