RAGING ON EASTERN FRONT FAILURE OF NAZI ATTACKS FROM FINLAND. PLANE LOSSES ON SUNDAY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) RUGBY, June 30. A Russian communique, issued this afternoon, states: “Throughout the night stiff battles were carried out on a large scale from the Arctic to the southernmost part of the west Ukraine sector, including Murmansk, Dvinsk, Minsk and Luck. Stubborn and repeated attacks on the Karelian Isthmus, in the Keksholm area, have been repulsed and severe losses inflicted. An attempt to land forces from the sea near Viborg, just inside the RussoFinnish frontier, was frustrated, all the Germans taking part in the operation being destroyed, either while landing or on shore. > “During Sunday, 53 enemy planes were destroyed and 21 Soviet planes were lost.”
