IN RUSSO-GERMAN CONFLICT

Nazis Report Two Russian Annies Surrounded ARMOURED DIVISIONS ON OUTSKIRTS OF MINSK SOVIET FORCES WITHSTANDING ENEMY ■ INFANTRY LONDON, .Tune 29. The German radio claims that German armoured divisions are on the outskirts of Minsk (north of the Pripet marshes) < and that two Russian armies have been completely surrounded. The Russians state that the German drive has been held up near Minsk. It is stated that the Germans hope to repeat the manoeuvre which broke the French army at Sedan. The German armoured divisions have large bodies of Russian troops in their rear and it is claimed that the Russian forces are preventing the main body of German infantry from making contact with the advanced German armoured units. It is a question whether the Russian troops or the German tank divisions are in greater danger of being surrounded. The Germans claim tremendous destruction of Russian divisions, over 2,000 armoured vehicles and 4,107 Russian aircraft. Prisoners, it is stated, total 40,000. In spite of the German assertion that the Soviet Air Force is more or less crippled, the Russians are making powerful air attacks in support of the army’s operations and in raids on enemy bases.
