.MINISTERIAL VISIT

INSPECTION OF WEST SCHOOL GROUNDS. TALK WITH KINDERGARTEN COMMITTEE. The Minister of Education, Mr H. G. R. Mason, paid an informal visit to Masterton on Saturday afternoon when he inspected the grounds and surroundings of the new Masterton West School. The member for the district. Mr J. Robertson: the Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, and members • of the West School Committee were present. An apology for absence was received fropi the chairman of the school committee, Mr E. R. Rogers, who was absent owing to illness. Mr F. Shearer, on behalf of the school committee, thanked Mr Mason for the interest he had shown in thse school’s affairs. It was hoped to have the grounds and surroundings improved before the school was officially opened. Mr Mason indicated that the matter would receive his sympathetic consideration.

Later in the afternoon the Masterton West Free Kindergarten committee waited on the Minister. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, was present. Mr J. Robertson. M.P.. introduced the committee and gave an outline of the committee’s difficulties concerning the title to the borough reserve on which it was proposed to erect the building. Following an informal discussion Mr Mason said the metier would receive his attention. He anticipated that no difficulty would be experienced in arriving at a satisfactory agreement.
