Mr J. B. Barnett was re-elected president of the Marlborough Dairy Factories’ Association at the annual meeting last week. Mr R. G. Gerard has been elected representative on the electoral committee of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board by the Mid-Canterbury executive of the Farmers' Union and the Ashburton, Methven and Mayfield Agricultural and Pastoral Associations.

Lieutenant 11. Montgomery, Ashburton, has been appointed officer-in-charge and chief instructor of a pipe band, which has been formed by Scottish members of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Egypt. It will be known as the 33rd Canterbury and Otago Battalion Pipe Band. Mr and Mrs J. Barnes, of 30 Victoria Street, Masterton, has received news that their son, Corporal J. A. Barnes, has been posted as missing. Corporal J. A. Barnes, who left New Zealand with the First Echelon, went through the Greek campaign and when last heard of was in Crete. The death has occurred of Mr Frank Cogswell, one of the oldest residents of Napier. Mr Cogswell was 82 years of age. After working on his father’s farm in Raglan district, he joined in turn the wool departments of Murray, Roberts and Co., the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., and Williams and Kettle, Ltd. ’He was with the latter firm for 38 years, retiring in November, 1932.
