FREE KINDERGARTEN

MEMBERSHIP CANVASS TO BE MADE. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Masterton West Free Kindergarten Committee the question of ways and means’of raising further funds to forward the free kindergarten project was discussed. In the absence of the chairman, Mr C. J. Williams. Mr S. Maclennan presided over a well-attended meeting of committee members and their husbands.

A thorough canvass is to be made for annual members, Mr C. Anderson to be placed in charge of the membership drive, with power to nominate a canvassing committee. The canvass will be carried out as soon as the organisation of the committee .and the areas to be covered has been set down and completed, and results will be reported to the next meeting of the committee. By this means it is hoped that the interest of a considerably wider body of the public will be enlisted. and a substantial addition made to the funds in hand. Members are to be provided with patterns for the making of dolls and similar toys. These are to be disposed of direct to the public at an appropriate time, and the work will be put in hand as soon as sufficient patterns are available for distribution. The financial statement showed a credit, balance at the Post Office Savings Bank of £lO2 13s Id, with no outstanding accounts. The Masterton Trust Lands Trust advised that the committee’s application for financial assistance had been fully considered, and would be again discussed when the free kidergarten's project was advanced further. An informative travel talk was given by Miss Kirk, who recounted her experiences and impressions gained while making a tour of Germany, Austria. Hungary, and Holland in i 937. Miss i Kirk also described German family life as it was presented to her while she was staying with a German family. Miss Kirk was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
