The Maritime Commission has announced that eight American shipping lines engaged in foreign trade under Government-subsidised agreements have voluntarily consented to reductions in the subsidy rates to a comparatively nominal figure. The companies consenting include United States lines operating the American pioneer line from North Atlantic ports to Australia and New Zealand. The companies have not yet agreed to include the Oceanic Steamship Company, operating the Matson Line. At the same time it was disclosed I hat within a month there would be established a new Irish steamship line, to transport food and supplies to Ireland.
