There is no news of today’s fighting in the northern area of the Russian front, but in the northern portion of the centre sector the Russians admit that enemy tanks have penetiatec deeply in the Vilna area. They claim that a severe defeat of the Germans enabled the Russian forces to be reorganised m readiness for further action. The Russians claim to have inflicted considerable losses on enemy tanks by air attack, it appears that the thrust in this region is aimed at Minsk. Damage to the docks at Constanta is confirmed by seamen arriving’in Turkey. All German parachute troops dropped m Soviet territory have been wiped out. A German communique says nothing about land fighting except that the troops have been victorious on all fronts and that., areat decisions will be announced shortly.
