HAMPERS FOR FORCES
The following were the contents of six hampers sent from January to June to the Army, Navy and Air Force Club in Wellington from the Martinborough district; —60 joints mutton, 181bs. corned beef, 1 large brawn, 4 cooked hams, half side bacon, 29 dozen eggs, lllbs. honey, 11 tins sheeps’ tongues, 6 tins salmon, 4 tins baked beans, 104 bottles sauces, pickles and chutneys, 121 bottles jams and jellies, 16 large bottles cooked and jellied beetroot, 1 Igal. jar cooked beetroot, 66 large cakes, 5 large boxes small cakes, 5 large boxes homemade biscuits, 61bs. cracker biscuits, 4 large boxes scones, 4 nut loaves, 5 dozen pastry cases, 1 large meat pasty, 251bs. flour, HOlbs. sugar, 7Albs. tea, 1 tin pepper, lllbs. mustard, 11b. cocoa, 2 pots paste, 2 tins of pineapple. 21bs. coffee, 4 large bottles of salad dressing. 6 cases apples, 1 box home-made soap, 1 case rhubarb, 4 cases cucumbers, 1 case onions, 3 large boxes beetroot, 1 bag swede turnips, 8 bags carrots and parsnips, 2 large bags potatoes, 3 sugar-bags potatoes, 2 bags pumpkins.
Ladies’ Golf Club. The best cards in a medal handicap were: Mrs Charles 100, 24, 76; Mrs McLeod, 106, 19, 87: Mrs Baker 112, 24, 88.
