CLAIMED BY THE RUSSIANS

Invading Forces Broken and Driven Back GERMANS REPORT FAVOURABLE PROGRESS EXPECTATION OF MUCH GREATER GAINS LONDON, June 25. According to a correspondent, the Germans sent into Bessarabia powerful forces of infantry and tanks and it became necessary for the Russians to deal the enemy a terrific blow immediately. Bombers and fighters hurled themselves on the enemy and a number of enemy tanks were destroyed, while the infantry suffered heavy losses. Taking advantage of these losses, Soviet cavalry charged the enemy lines and chased the enemy back towards a bridge, destroying everything in their path; They cleared the bridge and occupied a town in Rumania. Heavy attacks by the Soviet air force are reported on Constanta and other Rumanian towns, and on a number of towns in Germany and in German-occupied Poland. News from German sources states that German forces are progressing very favourably and that much greater successes are to be expected. So far 400 Russian planes have been destroyed. A Moscow communique reports that big strides have been made this year in industrial and technical development, a position which will affect the outcome of the war. The output from factories, it is stated, has exceeded all expectations. It is officially stated in Sweden that German troops are to be allowed to cross Sweden. This concession is limited to one division. The British United Press Association’s correspondent in Helsinki reports that Russian air raids on Finland in the last ten hours caused fires and casualties in a number of places.
