PARADE OF TROOPS

KEEN PUBLIC INTEREST IN WELLINGTON GOVERNOR-GENERAL' TAKES SALUTE. STREETS THICKLY LINED WITH PEOPLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Keen public interest was manifested in a parade of 2,200 troops now in Trentham Camp when they assembled at the Railway Station this morning and marched through the city. The streets were thickly lined with people. The parade took a quarter of an hour to pass the saluting base. The salute was taken by the GovernorGeneral (Sir C. Newall). With him were the Acting-Premier, Mr W. Nash, and other members of Cabinet. The weather is fine but overcast.

IMPRESSIVE BEARING COLUMN IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Shoulders square, rifles at the slope and bayonets putting flash and sparkle into the sunlight of a winter morning, gave the Burnham reinforcements of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force an impressive bearing when they paraded in Christchurch today. It was a parade similar to many that have been seen in the city during the past eighteen months, but on this occasion the crowds lining the footpaths along the route of the march were smaller than usual. The men appeared fit and well, their marching and general bearing reflecting the result of efficient training. There were frequent bursts of applause and hand-clapping as the column passed by, but little cheering was heard.
