OIL FOR BRITAIN
SUPPLIES FROM U.S. INSTEAD OF SOUTH AMERICA. UNDER LEASE & LEND ACT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, June 19. Britain henceforth will obtain oil from the United States under the Lease and Lend Act instead of buying from South America, according to an announcement by the Secretary of the Interior, Mr Ickes. Mr Ickes has arranged with the Navy Department, under the Lease and Lend administration, to supply to Britain not less than 50 per cent of their total oil purchases.
