AIR TRAINING

NEW ZEALANDER IN CANADA. In a letter to his sister, a Masterton member of a group of New Zealanders undergoing training in Canada under the Empire air training scheme gives an interesting account of his experiences and pays a warm tribute to the hospitality received from the Canadians. “The trains over here are very dirty,” he states. "The coal is fed in to the furnace by steam pressure and small pieces of coal come out of the chimney stack without being burnt. They seem to get into every corner.” The Rocky Mountains were a great sight. Snow fights with the Australian members of the group and Canadians were, frequent and enjoyed by all taking part. “The people are very good to us,” states the writer. The men . are asked out to teas and evenings and at the airmen's club there is a book with addresses in it and if a man has nothing to do he phones an address and states that he is coming. He is welcomed and if needed is given a bed for the night. The men bought their own electric irons and a wireless gramaphone and records.
