DIESEL OIL RESOURCES
AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPMENT. “In view of the urgent need to develop our own Diesel and lubricating oil resources, the Commonwealth Government has decided to expedite a thorough examination of the possibilities of the Lakes Entrance (Victoria) area,” said the Australian Minister for the Interior and Information (Senator Foil) recently. “I have already cabled the Australian Minister in Washington (Mr Casey)' asking him to try to obtain the services - of a professional oil production engineer who is expert in low-pressure, low-yielding fields." For a long time, the Commonwealth Government had been investigating the possibilities of the Lakes Entrance area as a potential source of oil production. Also as the result of the work done by private enterprise over a number of years, consistent technical information has been available to the Government. This knowledge has been used by Federal experts who, in conjunction with the Victorian Government, have done a certain amount, of exploration in the area that had previously - been worked by private companies.
