ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. The weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club was held last evening. Mr W. J. Beresford presided over a satisfactory attendance of members, despite the adverse weather conditions obtaining. Several recently-received copies of “The Chinese Herald." a journal published bi-monthly entirely in Esperanto, were displayed and examined with much interest, and it was decided to cordially thank the editor of the magazine, which emanates from Chungking. The question of representation at the 12th New Zealand Esperanto Congress, to be held at Wellington at New Year, was discussed at length with a view to ensuring that the club will be worthily represented numerically. Further practice in the spoken use of Esperanto comprised reading aloud and transaltion. The secretary (Mr W. H. King) recited Longfellow’s "Excelsior" in Esperanto, the ensuing general discussion in the international language disclosing that substantial progress had been made by those taking part.
