The president. Mr J. A. McLeod presided. There was a good attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received. Prior to the commencement of business the president referred in sympathetic terms to the death of Mrs Reynolds, Senr., Masterton. and Mr A. Rowbottom. Otane. He termed Mrs Reynolds "the grand old lady of the district." As a pioneer settler she was well known throughout the district; Messrs C. and F. Reynolds, committeemen. were sons. Mr McLeod stated that Mr Rowbottom had always been interested in A. and P. pursuits, both as an exhibitor and as a judge. He paid a personal tribute to Mr Rowbottom’s character. “He was one of Nature’s gentlemen and one was fortunate to be able to call him a friend," he said. Those present stood in silence as a mark of respect. It was decided to send letters of sympathy to the relatives. The treasurer. Mr Geo. Brown, reported a credit balance of £440 in the Bank of New Zealand, and £494 in i the Post Office Savings Bank, making ( a total credit balance of £934. ( “We have covered the ground very fully at. previous meetings and came | to the conclusion that the Eastern District Show Council was of little use." said Mr McLeod in commenting on the report of a meeting of representatives of the society and the Masterton A. and P. Association held in Masterton recently. "We met the Masterton Association and agreed that we were paving hard cash to the council and getting no benefit. The remit passed would mean the amalgamation of the eastern and western show councils and would resul 1 in the societies getting more value for (heir money. The one body would be- in a belter position to arrange show dates to avoid clashing." The delegates’ action in moving the remit in conjunction wit!) the Masterton. Association, was approved. Arising oul of a report bv the grounds committee in connection wit); maintenance paint work it was decided to leave the matter of buying nainl in the hands of the treasurer and the grounds committee.
