ROTARY CLUB
WEEKLY LUNCHEON. ADDRESS ON INDIA. There was a large attendance of members at the weekly luncheon meeting of the Masterton Rotary Club held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms today. Tfie president. Mr P. F. Fagan, presided. A tribute to the personal qualities of the late Dr. J. A. Cowie, an honorary member of the club, was paid by the president, Mr Fagan stated that the luncheon had been held today as usual because all knew that it would be Dr. Cowie's wish. He was a member when the club was founded in December 1925. and had been its third president, taking the chair in 1927. following General Sir Herbert Hart and Dr. Uttlcy. Dr. Cowie had carried out good work for the club and all knew the . wonderful part he had played in rendering' service to the community. While all regretted his passing it was pleasing to know that in accordance with his wishes, he had died "in harness." To his wife and family the club extended its sincere and deep sympathy. Those present stood in silence for a | few moments as a mark of respect. Mr A. E. Heyder (Masterton) and two visiting Rotarians. Messrs S. H. Fetherick (Dannevirke) and H. P. Kay (Palmerston North) were present as guests. The speaker for the day was the Rev. H. F. Ault. M.A.. who gave an interest- . ing address on India. Mr Ault was engaged in missionary work in that country for five years. He received an attentive hearing. Cn the motion of Mr E. G. Coddington the- speaker was accorded a hearty veto of thanks. Mr Coddington commented on the clear and vivid picture painted by Mr Ault of the lives and customs of the people of Karachi.
