BREAD UNDER WEIGHT
WELLINGTON BAKER FINED. SHORTAGE IN DELIVERY TO AIR FORCE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.l WELLINGTON, This Day. The delivery under contract to the Air Department at Rongotai of a hundred loaves of bread, 97 of which proved to be under weight, resulted in the conviction of Huia B. Tonics, master baiter, trading as the Wellington Bread Company. $ In a reserved judgment. Mr J. H. Lux.ford, S.M., said the degree of carelessness on the part of defendant was high and consequently the penalty would be substantial. A fine of £7 and costs was imposed. The bread was weighed as a whole when delivered, said the Magistrate, and. was found to be 3611 b short. Defendant. on learning of the short weight, made up the deficiency later in the day. The officer in charge, however had already complained to thei Inspector of Weights and Measures, who visited the aerodrome and weighed the 97 loaves remaining, three hav-J ing been cut no. Every loaf was under weight. The Magistrate held that, thei offence was complete when physical) delivery was made. "The object of the’ Section is to make bakers act carefully :w well as honestly." he said, "arid to deliver the weight of bread demanded by a purchaser." i
