EXPORT BALANCE
ALL SPENT ON DEFENCE IN DUTCH INDIES IMPORTS FROM UNITED STATES. / DEVELOPMENT OF SECOND ARMY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) ' (Received This Day. 11.55 a.m.) BATAVIA. June 11. The entire East Indies export balance, amounting to about £(>,000.000 monthly, is being spent on defence preparations, mainly the import from the United States of war materials. During the first four months of 1941, new home defence measures and the impart of aircraft and other arms cost £21,000.000. There has been groat progress in organising the East Indies Second Army—Home and City Guards —to fight parachutists and fifth columnists. This Second Army is already cn a sound basis in Java and it is now planned to extend it to Sumatra and other islands, such as Borneo and the Celebes.
