At the Inglewood plant of the North American Aviation Company, 900 men reported for the night shift, which normally consists of 6'ooo. There are now 3500 troops at the plant, including motorised units who are patrolling areas in which the men who have returned to work live, and affording them protection. Telegrams have been sent to 8000 strikers inviting them to return to work and guaranteeing them protection. It is reported that the Government is taking over the plant and setting up machinery for more extensive operations by Government men who will take the place of the company’s executives. Speaking in Washington, the Attor-ney-General, Mr Jackson, said the Inglewood situation more nearly resembled an insurrection than a strike. He said he believed the labour leaders did not want a settlement. The strikes' were following Communist Party lines.
