MENACE TO RUSSIA
NAZI APPLYING HEAVY PRESSURE ECONOMIC & OTHER DEMANDS. SOVIET SHOWING OBVIOUS FEAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. June 8. The "Daily Telegraph” says Hitler has been applying heavy pressure on Russia for some time, backed up bj r visible threats of military force. His claims, first, are economic, and he is seeking a trade agreement so comprehensive that it would prove, in practice, very like the German exploitation of France with German administrative control on the spot. The Germans possibly arc envisaging the passage of troops through Kiev and Odessa.
It is not considered that. Russia is strong enough to stand up against a threat backed by a great majority of the German armed forces, which are far superior to anything Russia can, field.
Russia’s obvious fear of Germany is shown by the fact that she has not offered Britain specific concessions in exchange for British recognition of the annexation of the Baltic States and the ending of the freezing of their funds.
