ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. There was a good attendance at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening. Mr W. J. Beresford presided. The secretary (Mr W. I-I. King) presented. correspondence which included a communication from the New Zealand Esperanto Association, Wellington, the parent body of Dominion Esperantists, inviting the submission of names and addresses of Esperantists for inclusion in a New Zealand “Adresaro” (directory). It was decided to extend the full co-operation of all club members. The “Official Bulletin” of the N.Z.E.A. and the organ of the International Esperanto League, “Esperanto Internacia,” were also displayed. Referring to the state of the Esperanto movement abroad. Mr Beresford said Esperanto still lives in the various countries despite the war conditions obtaining in many. Nearer home, two large correspondence courses were being conducted in Australia and the Tasmanian Esperanto Association is particularly active. In Spain, after the civil war, Esperantists were again undertaking propaganda and establishing clubs, and Finnish Esperantists were working on similar lines. Norwegian Esperantists had held in November last their annual conference. National clubs had been well represented and delegates from even the warworn towns'of Narvik, Trondheim and Bergen had attended. Mr and JJrs N. Lamont presented a sketch entitled “La Melkistino,” which was followed by a reading (Mia Tago) by Mr A. G. Wiltshire. The reading aloud and translation of an article from “La Interna Ideo,” the New Zealand al] -Esperanto magazine, occupied the final portion of the evening and proved to be helpful and interesting. '
