AMERICAN SHIPS
SERVICES TO NEW ZEALAND & AUSTRALIA. j DETAILS STILL AWAITING ! DECISION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 8. No details have reached London of tlie agreement reached in Washington whereby the United States is taking over shipping between America and New Zealand and Australia. This was agreed to in principle last year, but many details, some highly contentious, awaited decision, including the question of competition between British and American lines in peace time. However, as more British ships are lost, the question of competition after the war is solving itself in a manner tragic for British interests. Shipping circles express the opinion that provision of American ships for the Pacific run is unlikely to cause any great improvement in shipping facilities for the Australia-New Zealand trade by other routes because the number of British ships running between America, Australia and New Zealand has been progressively reduced for months.
