NOT TO BE CONTESTED AT BY-ELECTION. STATEMENT BY NATIONAL PARTY LEADER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. June 6. "It is not the' intention of the National Party to contest the by-elec-tion to fill the Waitemata seat, made vacant by the death of the sitting member. Captain W. J. Lyon, in action." said the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, in a telephone interview from Christchurch. He added that the decision had been reached as a mark of respect to Captain Lyons's memory and had the support of the National Party both in the Auckland division and in the electorate. "The party wilt, however, contest the seat at the General Election scheduled to take place later this year," Mr Holland said.
