HITLER’S NEW ORDER
PENDING PROCLAMATION DESIGNED AS A WAR MANOEUVRE. THE ATTITUDE OF RUSSIA. NEW YORK. June 4. ißy Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) Dr Alfii'tin Duehs, of Chile, formerly of the Austrian Goveriimeiit’s I’ress Bureau, writing in the “New York' “Times,” says that about next Monday Hitler will proclaim'all Europe a federation of States under German management. This informat ion has been received via Lisbon by the Archduke Otto of Hapshurg, at present resident in I he United States. The proclamation will be designed as a psychological war manoeuvre to offset the swing of American opinion toward aid for Britain. Hitler will also say that with the establishment of a "United States of Europe” the German war aims are accomplished and that therefore there is no reason to continue the war. The chief points of the “permanent new order” will be a federation of States with the policy-making in Berlin. The individual States will maintain only local police powers. Currency will be unified into a “Europe mark.” Customs barriers will disappear. There will be a single German high command with Italians holding certain key positions. Hitler will say that Russia recognises the new order, though she will not become a part of it. “STATE OF PEACE” AXIS PLANS FOR EUROPE. LONDON. June 4. The Italian Press reports that Mussolini and Hitler on Monday discussed the immediate organisation of a Continental peace. .“La Tribuna” affirms that there is a possibility of Europe passing from a state of war to a state of peace without waiting till the Axis has definitely won the war against Britain, adding, “Britain henceforth is outside Europe. That is sufficient for the creation of the new European order.”
DEPENDENT ITALY ABANDONMENT OF NAZI PROMISES. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 3. Yesterday’s meeting between Hitler and Mussolini brought forth the expected statement that the talk, which lasted for some hours, ended in “complete agreement.” Evidence reaching informed quarters here suggests that the collaboration with Vichy will at the moment serve the German purposes better than fulfilling of the promises made to Mussolini a year ago when active Italian intervention was advantageous to the Nazi plans. Since then the picture has revealed the utter dependence of II Duce on German arms.
