HOCKEY TOURNEY
GAMES AT LANSDOWNE YESTERDAY KARORI WIN SENIOR MEN'S SECTION. GREYTOWN A I,ADIES SUCCESSFUL. The annual King’s Birthday tournament held by the combined Wairarapa hockey associations was concluded at the Lansdowne grounds yesterday afternoon. The weather was perfect and the grounds in splendid order. ■ The warm winter sunshine drew a large attendance of the public. The high standard of play set in the earlier stages of the competitions was well maintained and the finals provided hockey at its best, All teams were well matched, and the games were closely contested. The senior men's competition, which provided particularly good hockey was won by Karori, which beat Wesley, a local team, by 2 goals to nil. Dalefield beat Wesley A by 1 goal to nil in the junior section and Scouts A won the third grade event. Greytown A beat College 3-0 in the senior ladies' final and Excelsior A beat Martinborough 1-0 in the- junior final. Members of the St. John Ambulance were present to give first aid in case of injury. Junior Ladies. Carterton A 1, Martinborough 0. Semi-final: Excelsior A 2, Carterton C 0. Final: Excelsior A 1, Martinborough 0. DANCE LAST NIGHT AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. The Masonic Hall, Masterton. was crowded last night when the visiting Wellington. Upper Hutt and Wairarapa teams attended a most successful dance run by the tournament committee. Under the able direction of the M.C.. Mr Sodden, the proceedings went with a swing to music provided by Jack Barnes's orchestra. Extras wore played by Mr R. Thompson. The president of the Wairarapa Men’s Hockey Association, Mr G. S. i Maloney, presented the cups and trophies won during the day. He referred, to the capable and efficient manner in I which Mr and Mrs R. S. Moor had con-| ducted the tournament and thanked all officials for their services and the teams for their support.
Supper was served by a team of helpers.
