JAPANESE BOMBING RAID ON CHUNGKING DAMAGE IN BRITISH EMBASSY COMPOUND. FRENCH BUILDINGS HIT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) CHUNGKING, June 2. A raid on Chungking, by 27 Japanese bombers, caused 300 casualties, the highest number this year. The entire consular district was severely bombed. Six bombs fell in the British Embassy compound, damaging the Ambassador’s office and staff quarters. A majority of the staff sheltered in the Ambassador’s residence, which was not damaged. The French Consulate, the French Mission and the Municipal Hospital were hit.
