BIG FIRE IN AUCKLAND. DAMAGE NOT LESS THAN £30,000. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Damage estimated at not less than £30.000 was caused by a fire which started in the grocery section on the top floor of premises occupied by Messrs J. Jones Ltd., grain and produce auctioneers, city markets. The call was received by the city fire brigade at 6.30 o’clock. Four machines attended and with three hoses playing the fire was soon under control. Grass seed, wheat, pollard and all types of produce were destroyed by fire and water. Water seepage to the bottom floor also caused destruction to hardware and groceries. The staff was recalled by radio early this morning and worked all day clearing the smouldering debris. Tomorrow’s auctions have been postponed. The insurances are not available owing to the holiday.
