Enemy Countries. A proclamation issued last night declares Syria and Lebanon to be enemy countries for the purposes of the Enemy Property Emergency Regulations. 1939, and the Enemy Trading Emergency Regulations, 1939. National Government Desired. The Mid-Canterbury conference of the Farmers’ Union at Ashburton yesterday carried unanimously without discussion a remit that the union make representations with a view to the formation of a National Government. Building Permits. The Masterton Borough Council issued six building permits this month for an estimated value of £1455, as compared with five permits for £1336 10s during May, 1940. White Wild Duck. A pure white wild duck, which has. for many years, been a well-known inhabitant of the private lake and sanctuary on the.property of Mr W. Langdon. Valetta, in the Ashburton County, was shot at the end of the shooting season. The duck was sent to Christchurch for mounting.
