PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE COST OF PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Patriotic Committee was held last evening at the Borough Council Chambers. The Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner) presided and there were also present: Messrs L. H. Smart, A. H. Callister, C. A. Chennells, A. T. Murray, L. J. Fairbrother, C. Jensen, W. Martin, J. Steel, Mesdames H. E. Ordish, J .L. Loftus, P. L. Beere, Miss C. Berrill- and O. W. Wolters. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Geo. Brown, F. Court and Mrs Beaven. ' It was resolved to acede to the request that the cost of parcels sent to soldiers overseas should be defrayed by the respective Provincial Patriotic Councils, and for which purpose funds had been raised. Mrs N. Boyne reported the receipt of £2 19s from the pram raffle, and a further sum of 17s from chocolate rafte. The secretary of Zone B wrote asking for a return of money collected to date. The secretary reported that £2052 ISs 6d had been collected. The secretary reported that a sum of £ll 13s had been received from the sale of waste metal. It was decided, on the motion of Miss Wolters, seconded by Mr L. J. Fairbrother, that a record be kept at the Borough Council office of all local men who had returned from overseas military service. Mrs H. E. Ordish proposed and Mr C. Chennells seconded that the secretary write to the Base Records office asking for particulars of all men in the district who’were awaiting discharge. The motion was carried. It was mentioned that a cushion won by Mrs W. H. Cooper had not been claimed. It could be obtained at the Borough Council office. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE PARCELS PACKED. Members of Ihe Carterton branch of the Women's Institute were busy yesterday afternoon arranging and packing parcels lor the soldiers overseas. These parcels have been delivered to the Borough Council Chambers, where other parcels have been taken on behalf of the Dalefield-Matarawa, Parkb vale and Gladstone branches of the Women’s Institutes. Including other women’s organisations the quota of parcels that will be forwarded will be one hundred. WAR SERVICE MEETING OF DELEGATES. The Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, presided at a meeting of delegates of the various women’s organisations in Carterton and district held in the Dalefield Dairy Company’s buildings yesterday. . The following four members were elected as the Carterton District Committee of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary: Mesdames H. E. Ordish (president), F. L. Barr (secretary), A. E. Pink and Miss O. Wolters. Gathering at Parkvale. At the Parkvale Hall tomorrow" a social gathering will be tendered to Privates O. Udy. E. Olliver, S. Ward, T. Backhouse and G. Eassett. Social Gathering. A social, gathering will be held in the Dalefield Hall on Monday evening when the guest of honour will be Pte. A. L. Bigwood. Post Office Hours on Monday. On King’s Birthday (Monday, June 2) the Carterton Post Office will be closed in all branches except the telephone exchange. No rural mail or postmen’s deliveries will be made.
