GREATLY DAMAGED
INNER & MIDDLE TEMPLES IN LONDON. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. May 29. The Inner and Middle Temples, historic home of barristers and lawyers, are among the latest of London's treasures to be shattered and set on fire in a recent raid. Half of the Temple buildings has been destroyed, the greatest loss being.the Temple Church, built in 1185, which is now a charred shell. It lias been described as the finest Norman church in Europe. The registers and valuable records were removed, including a gold cup which the lawyers presented to King James 1., whose charter gave them the freehold of the Temple. The tomb of Oliver Goldsmith was half-buried and the inscription written by Dr. Johnson destroyed.
