CARTERTON

DENTAL CLINIC ANNUAL MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Carterton and District Schools Dental Clinic was held last evening, Mr Jas. Fisher presiding over the following delegates: — Messrs H. J. McKenzie, W. E. Knowles, B. E. Clark, P. Beere, M. J. Parker, E. Rose, L. Humphries and Father Devlin. The report and balance sheet submitted by the secretary, Mr L. J. Harding, were read and adopted. The balAnce sheet showed a credit balance of £2l 16s 9d. The report stated that the • number of patients officially under treatment was 556. The , estimated number of children up to Standard V. at all schools in the group is 743. Mr H. J. McKenzie moved "That an executive committee be appointed to run the business of the clinic, such committee to meet every two months and rep,art to a general meeting of delegates each half year.” The motion was seconded by Mr W. Martin and carried. The election of officers resulted as follows: Chairman, Mr Jas. Fisher (reelected); secretary and treasurer, Mr W. E. Knowles; executive committee,, Messrs H. J. McKenzie, P. Beere and Father Devlin, with the chairman and secretary ex-officio; auditor, Mr W. Martin. On the motion of Mr Martin, seconded by Mr Fisher, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring sec-retary-treasurer, Mr Harding. It was decided that his services be recorded in the minutes of the clinic. Mr Harding thanked members for their vote of appreciation. He stated that he was one of the founders of the clinic in Carterton and had been its secretary-treasurer for 12 years. At a subsequent meeting of the newly appointed executive it was resolved to meet bi-monthly on the first Monday, three to form a quorum. Personal Items. 1 Sister Una Goodin, who has been attached to the Waiouru Military Camp, is at present on leave in Carterton, and in staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs Harold Goodin. Mr R. W. Roydhouse left Carterton yesterday to attend the North Island Automobile -Union Conference. He is accompanied by Mr Lawson, president j/ of the Wairarapa Association. f'T Mr and Mrs R. J. McCann, of Carterton, have received word that their son, Pte. McCann, has arrived at his destination. An old resident of the Wanganui and Masterton districts, Mr Louis Jackson, Carterton, died recently in Auckland. Mr Jackson is survived by his -widow and two daughters. Mrs Keith Suisted, Carterton, and Mrs ' Jack Wingate; “Cairnsmore,” Ashhurst.’ Corporal F. Archer, who has been on active service overseas has returned to Auckland. He and his wife arrived in Carterton this morning and are staying with Corporal Archer’s parents, Kent Street. Private Percy R. Chaplin at one time employed at the Clareville cheese factory and a member of the Carterton Lodge of Odd Fellows, is posted as missing. His mother lives at Nelson Creek. Shop Day. St. Mark's Ladies’ Guild will hold a shop day in the Band Room. Carterton. on Friday. The usual stalls will be laden with goods. Luncheon and afternoon tea will be available. Hockey. The following is the Carterton junior men's hockey team to play Greytown at 2.15 p.m. on Saturday: W. Morris, H. Abbott, B. Goodin, D. Williams, R. Andrews, D. McKenzie, H. Morris. B. Gallon. L. Fitzgerald, L. Roska, and N. Archer. Card Evening. The weekly card evening of the Carterton Boy Scouts was held last evening. The prizes were won by Mrs Hemi 1, and Mrs A. Jensen 2, and in the men’s section by Mr Wadsworth 1, and Mrs Patterson 2. Terminating Building Society. The annual general meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was held in the P. and A. building last evening, Mr L. 11. Smart presiding. I The. retiring directors. Messrs F. C. Bunny, L. J. Fairbrother, and W. Jamieson, were all re-elected. Mr L. H. Smart was re-elected chairman, and Mr G. W. Sellar shareholders’ auditor. and Mr J. M. G. McKenzie directors’ auditor. No tenders being received, a ballot was taken and Mr J. Preddy was successful. He receives £450 immediately and £l5O from the next ballot. At the next meeting £1209 by sale and £6OO by ballot will be appropriated.
