CHANGE OF ADDRESS
OBLIGATION ON RESERVISTS POSITION EXPLAINED. PROVISIONS OF EMERGENCY REGULATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Confusion and serious inconvenience are frequently caused to the army authorities and to the men concerned through reservists failing to notify appropriate the area officer of any change of address, the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) states. It sometimes happens that when a man is drawn in a ballot his address as shown in the Gazette is not his address at that time. This arises from his having failed to notify the Director of National Service of the change. Similarly, after a man is drawn in a ballot he may change his address without notifying either the Director of National Service or the army authorities. The result in either case is that the area officer sends the notice requiring the reservist to report for medical examination to the address shown in the Gazette and in many instances the notice is not received by him. This does not enable the man to avoid military service. When he fails to report in response to the notice, the area officer either obtains the assistance of the police in tracing him or causes a notice to be published in the Gazette requiring him to report at a time and place stated. Failure to comply with this notice makes a man liable to prosecution. <
The National Service Emergency Regulations. 1940. require a reservist to notify the Director of National Service, Wellington, within seven days of any change in his address after being enrolled in the reserve. In addition, by an amendment recently made to the regulations, every man whose address when called by ballot is different from his address as shown in the Gazette is required within seven days after publication of the Gazette to give notice by registered letter to the area officer of the military area where he is residing of his existing address. Further, he is also required to notify such area officer of any change made in his address after publication of the Gazette. Failure to comply with the - obligation to notify a change of address renders a man liable to prosecution.
