BRITISH EMPIRE

BASED ON FREEDOM. Answering Hitler’s recent charge that the British Empire was built up by robbery with violence, the "Western Mail" says:—The self-governing Dominions would not rally voluntarily from all parts of the earth to the Empire’s defence if it were based on robbery. They are not the servile victims of a ruthless domination, but free peoples who owe their freedom to the Imperial Government to which they remain bound of their own unfettered will by ties of loyalty and devotion. Is there any State or people in the world that would show such loyalty to Hitler? Is there one so poor and abject as to do him reverence? Nay. is there one that does not hate the man and his system as monstrous evils which must be destroyed if righteousness is to survive on earth? Herein lies the important difference between the British Empire and the brutal tyranny that Hitler would extend throughout Europe and then far beyond.
