FURTHER PENETRATION BY ENEMY MORE REINFORCEMENTS BY AIR. HEAVY FIGHTING CONTINUES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY. May 27. The most recent details of the fightins in Crete are given in a communique from British headquarters in Cairo. Supported by further intensive bombing. German troops in the area west of Canea launched another attack yesterday evening and enlarged their penetration of our defences, necessitating the withdrawal of our troops to rear positions. German reinforcements continue to reach the island by air. Heavy fighting is continuing.
