MAYOR & BOROUGH COUNCIL. TRIBUTE TO MR. BEETHAM’S SERVICES. The Mayor and the recently elected members of the Masterton Borough Council were sworn in by the returning officer. Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith, in the Municipal Chambers last night. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, was invested in his insignia of office, following which the councillors were sworn in. Councillor W. White was re-elected deputy-mayor. A welcome was extended to Councillor C. E. Grey, a new member of the council. It was decided to place on record appreciation of the services rendered to the council by Mr Trevor Beetham, who was not returned at the election. Crs K. Kemp and W. H. Judd were appointed to represent the council on the Masterton Fire Board. Reference was made to the work ,of Mr Trevor Beetham (chairman of the board) as the council’s representative. Sub-committees were set up as follow: — Park, Hall. Cemetery and Band: Crs. G. D. Wilson (chairman), H. E. Gardner. W. White. R. Russell. J. Ninnes. Library: Crs. W. Kemp (chairman). G. W. Morice. Gardner. Russell. Ninnes, Gas and abattoirs: Crs. A. D. Low (chairman). A. T. Jackson. Wilson. C. E. Grey, and the Mayor. Mr T. Jordan). Works and Finance: Mr Jordan (chairman). Crs. Kemp. W. H. Judd. G. W. Morice, Low. On the recommendation of the borough engineer. Mr C. R. Mabson, it was decided to legalise the streets in the Nops housing block.
