County Surfaced Roads.
The total length of permanently surfaced roads within Masterton County, including State highways, at March 31. was 45 miles 46 chains, made up as follows: —State highways. 14m. 60chs.: main highways. 24m. Ich.; riding roads. Gm. 65chs. Dinner to Troops. A dinner is to be tendered at the Midland Hotel. Masterton, on Wednesday next, to officers and men of the Sixth Reinforcements who are on leave in Masterton and district. The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Men wishing to attend are requested to hand in their names to the Town Clerk's office not later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday next, so that, catering arrangements can be completed. “How Nations Die.” A public lecture is to be delivered ( by the Rev Father Ignatius, of Auckland. entitled "How Nations Die." dealing with the social and moral problems of the day and the necessity of education on the primary law of life. The lecture will be given in St Patrick's Hall. Queen Street, tomorrow night at 8 o’clock, under the auspices ol' the SI. Vincent de Paul Society. The iiubiic is invited to hear this able speaker. ■
