ROYAL SHOW SOCIETY

BETTER WORKING DESIRED. SHOW SOCIETIES’ ATTITUDE. Representatives of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society and the Masterion A. and P. Association met in Masterton last night when a round table conference was held to consider proposals to secure the better working of the Royal Show Society. Mr R. E. Gordon Lee (president of the Masterton Association) presided. There were also present Messrs J. A.’ McLeod (president), L. H. Smart (secretary), C. J. Nix, C. E. Reynolds. J. Fisher, W. Howard Booth, representing the Wairarapa Society, and N. Blatchford, J. M. James, T. V. Caverhill and R. H. Williams (secretary) representing the Masterton Association. Suggestions to revive the Eastern District Council of the Royal Show Society, which was stated to be defunct, were discussed at length. The business was taken in committee. Several remits were passed for the Dominion Conference. It was considered that the Royal Society's rules should be overhauled. The following remit was passed, to be sent to the forthcoming Dominion Conference: "That the rules be amended to provide for full voting power at annual meetings of the Royal Show Society by all financial A. and P. and breed society members, whether delegates representing them were members or not of the Royal Society.” It was pointed out that unless a delegate was a member of the society he had no voting powers at annual meetings, only at conferences. The subscriptions paid by A. and P. associations were also dealt with. It was stated that they paid the Royal Society one per cent on membership fees, while breed societies paid the fixed sum of £5 ss. Dreed societies were more financial than A. and P. associations. Last year the Carterton and Masterton associations paid £5 each in subscriptions to the society. A remit that subscriptions be reduced to one half per cent was passed. It was emphasised that according to its annual report a total of 23 associations were unfinancial out of 88 affiliated to the Royal Show Society.
