REGENT THEATRE
“CHRISTMAS IN JULY.” Paramount's “Christmas in July," which will be shown tonight at the Regent Theatre co-starring Dick Powell and Ellen Drew, is an original story by Preston Sturges. Powell plays the role of a clerk with a coffee concern whose mania is contests. Through a practical joke played by some fellow employees he believed he has won a slogan contest and £5OOO from a rival coffee concern. On the strength of this he goes ahead with plans' to marry Ellen Drew. Even the neighbourhood kids share in his generosity, all of which he obtained on credit. Suddenly the head of the rival concern realises he has made a mistake in giving him the check, and then the fun starts. It’s a riot of fun from start to finish. The supporting subjects include the. latest Aii- Mail News, a Sportlight, a Paramount headliner, Popeye Cartoon and a beautiful study “Nature's Nursery.” Plans are at Nimmo's and the theatre.
