MANY ATTACKS
IN IRAQ AND ABYSSINIA ENEMY SUFFERS HEAVILY. ALL BRITISH PLANES RETURN SA FEIA’. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Dav. 10.45 a.m.) RUGBY. May 26. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states: "In Iraq large numbers of sorties were made yesterday against military objectives at Ramadi and several fires were started. The aerodrome at Mosul was bombed and a number of aircraft machine-gunned on the ground were severely damaged. At Baquba. German uircraft on the ground were bombed and machine-gunned, two being set on fire.
"Enemy aircraft, attacked the R.A.F. Aerodrome at Habbania, but there were no service casualties. "In Abyssinia, aircraft of the South African Air Force attacked enemy defences and motor transport in the neighbourhood of the Onio River, direct hits being obtained on bridges and ferries. A number of motor transport vehicles were destroyed. "A number of enemy aircraft approached Malta yesterday and made a machine-gun attack on the aerodrome at Takalo. Several enemy aircraft were damaged by anti-aircraft fire. "From all these operations and others in Greece, our aircraft returned safely."
