ITALIAN PRISONERS
ARRIVAL IN AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALANDER ON SPECIAL LEAVE. FOUR DEATHS IN FAMILY. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, May 26. A first batch of 500 Italian prisoners of war captured by the British and Australian forces in Libya arrived in Sydney for internment in various country camps. Also a further batch of Australian wounded soldiers has arrived in Canberra. Among- the wounded men who returned were five New Zealanders, one of whom is Bombardier J. F. Baldwin, Avondale, who is returning to New Zealand on compassionate leave. He is a member of the 7th New Zealand Anti-Tank Regiment which, went to England last year. He emerged unscathed through scores of air raids, and after fighting in several battles in Libya he received news of the death in New Zealand of his father, mother, brother and eldest child. Because of these bereavements he has been granted extended leave, which he will spend with his wife in New Zealand.
