FAMILY GATHERING

MR & MRS DAVID SPEEDY'S DESCENDANTS. CENTENARY OF LANDING. A gathering of interest to Wairarapa residents was held at the Petone Pioneer Memorial Hall on Saturday, when 59 direct descendants of Mr and Mrs David Speedy, who landed at Port Nicholson, probably at Petone Beach, on Empire Day. May 24. 1841. assembled to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Mr and Mrs Speedy's landing. The gathering was an informal one. Mr and Mrs David Speedy and their seven children who came from Methven. Penthshire, Scotland, landed from the ship. Lord William Bentinck. Among the descendants present at Saturday's gathering. many of whom came from the Wairarapa. were five children of the fifth generation. A very interesting feature was the exhibition of a family tree, compiled by a great granddaughter.
