DECISIVE VICTORY
CLAIMED BY JAPANESE. CONTROL OF SOUTHERN SHANSI. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. .12.40 p.m.) CHUNGKING. May 23. It is announced that the Eighteenth Chinese Red Army is participating in the battle against the Japanese in Southern Shansi. A Shanghai message states that the Japanese Army spokesman claimed a decisive victory, giving control of the whole of Southern Shansi, north of the Yellow River. The spokesman admitted that the Chinese had recaptured Chuki, in the Chekiang Province, after a voluntary Japanese withdrawal.
