NATIVES OF THE DUTCH INDIES. USEFUL ADDITION TO DEFENCE FORCES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 12.40 p.m.) BATAVIA, May 23. Measures providing for the compulsory military service of the native population have been introduced in Ihe Netherlands East Indies Parliament. following upon patriotic requests by many thousands of the islanders. who desire to participate in the defence of their country. The new units will result in much stronger coast protection, plus extensive garrisoning inland.
