E.P. COMMITTEE

MEETING LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Carterton Emergency Precautions Committee was held in the P. and A. Society’s building last evening. The Mayor presided, and there were also present: Sister Marshall, Mrs Loftus, Mrs Taverner, Miss O. W. Wolters, Messrs A. T. Murray, E H. Smith, A. E. Pankhurst, Geo. Brown. J. H. Churchouse, J. Finn, Rev. W. J. Couling, Dr. W. J. C. Wells, J. Steel, W. Candy, Captain Ojalla, J. B. Lawrence, R. R. Wakelin, F. Barr, G. James, J. Wilson, C. C. Callendei, S. Hill, P. Beere, E. McKenzie, E. T. Beaven and H. Matson. Apologies for absence were received from Rev. V*. F. Stent and Mr F. Court. Mr R. Lee, of Masterton, addressed the meeting on the duties as they concerned the various branches of the Emergency Precautions movement. He was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr Geo. Brown was appointed interim deputy-controller of the committees of medical and public health. Mr A. E. Pankhurst, postmaster, was appointed in the place of Mr N. Boyne, who had left the district. The secretary was authorised to enquire regarding the purchase of 12 bucket pumps for use by the fire briE. H. Smith was appointed to act as deputy to the Supply Committee. The resignation as convenor of the Transport Committee of Mr H. Hughan was accepted, and Messrs S. Hill and P. ' Beere were appointed as convenor and deputy to the committee, respectively. Boy Injured. Allan Sayles, aged 3, of Carterton, was admitted to the Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon. He received injuries to his face when he was knocked over by a horse. His condition is satisfactory. Personal. On Wednesday afternoon the staff of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board met to farewell Mr Crichton Deller, who will leave on Saturday for Levin to take up duties in the Air Force. Mr Geo. Brown, in making the presentation of a hold-all and a safety razor, said that Mr Deller possessed ability in his work, and expressed the opinion that he would make a success of his new undertaking. Messrs Dudson and Harding spoke in a similar strain, and wished him a speedy and safe return. Mr Deller suitably returned thanks. Soldiers to be Entertained. The Carterton Football Club will tomorrow evening entertain at a dance two of its members who are in the N.Z. military forces. The gathering will be held in the Masonic Hall and presentations will be made to Privates B. H. Gayfer and Thos. Harp. Church Services. A Church of England service will be held at Waihakeke on Sunday at 2 p.m. Personal Items. Miss E. Pinfold, of the telephone exchange, was suitably farewelled by members of the various staffs at a recent gathering. Mr A. E. Pankhurst, in making a presentation to Miss Pinfold, referred to her ability as a telephone attendant, and to the efficient manner in which she had always discharged her duties. He presented Miss Pinfold with a lady's companion and he wished her good luck and good health. Miss Pinfold suitably returned thanks. Miss Pinfold is spending a holiday at Hamilton and Auckland. Women’s Institute Dance. At the Parkvale Hall tomorrow evening the Parkvale Women’s Institute will hold a dance and euchre tourney. A sucking pig will be the prize for the highest points gained in the euchre tournament. Mrs Ashton’s orchestra will provide the dance music, and supper will be provided. Druids’ Ball. The annual ball in connection with Totara Lodge of Druids, Carterton, will be held in the King’s Theatre on Monday evening. Patrons are assured of an excellent evening’s enjoyment. Udy’s Orchestra will provide the music, and a strong ladies’ committee will have charge of the supper arrangements. Basketball. The following is the Belvedere team to play Masterton Hospital at Masterton on Saturday:—Goal-throwers, C. Walker, E. Jenson, D. Ashton; centres, M. Hedley, D. Garratt, P. Cadwallader; defence, R.
