WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNCIL ‘ a PARTY POLITICS. - COUNCILLORS EXPRESS VIEWS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The term to be • for 3 years and that applications be called for the position.” The tender of Messrs Fairhurst Brothers was accepted for the erection of a culvert at Longbush and that, with ■ the approval of the Public Works Department, county workmen carry out the work of filling the approaches and the erection of a temporary bridge. It was decided to place an order for two new trucks, the chairman and overseer to arrange the purchase. The County Engineer was authorised to prepare estimates for sealing Lin- , coin Road, and that the same be submitted to the Carterton Borough Coun- . cil fur consideration. Slaughter-house licenses in respect to applications from Messrs G. W. Deller Ltd., W. Vaughan and Meat Export Co., were granted. Correspondence was received from the People’s Movement regarding the formation of a National Government. Councillor D. McGregor said there was no question in his mind that party politics were not wanted. They should drop party strife and give their whole-hearted support to the winning of the war. Politics and strife were not required and they should be dropped altogether, until Nazism was beaten. Other councillors also voiced similar views, and Councillor McGregor was appointed to represent the council on the proposed conference. It was also decided that the council be represented by one of its employees, to be elected by the workmen themselves. The question of inspecting river damage both at Kokotau and Gladstone is to be dealt with by a deputation consisting of the chairman and Councillors D. .McGregor, J. J. Strang and the overseer and-Mr Pavitt. who are to meet the Public Works Department engineer. Mr Rapson, on the spo't, with a view to inspecting the work and having provision for repairs placed upon the estimates. It was decided that when the bulldozer had finished work at Kaiwhata it should be sent to Flat Point to carry out necessary work. The overseer's report was ; mted.
